Dinamika Living Qur’an : Tradisi Pengajian Tafsir Marāḥ Labīd ( Studi Pada Masjid Jami Fadlullah Desa Linggapura Kecamatan Tonjong Kabupaten Brebes)

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the regular study of Tafsīr Marāḥ Labīd li Kasyf Ma‘nā al-Qur’ān al-Majīd by Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani at Jami Fadlullah Mosque, Linggapura Village, Tonjong District, Brebes Regency, and to analyze its social functions within the community based on Émile Durkheim's theory of the functions of religion. This study also views the tafsir gathering as a phenomenon of Living Qur'an, namely a form of society's reception of the Qur'an manifested through the tradition of studying classical exegetical works. This research is a field study employing a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with the religious leader and participants of the study circle, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings reveal that the study of Tafsīr Marāḥ Labīd is conducted regularly every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 06:00 to 07:00 a.m. using the bandongan method under the guidance of Drs. KH. Khudlori Affandi. The gathering functions not only as a medium for education and the transmission of Islamic knowledge but also as a means of preserving the intellectual tradition of Nusantara scholars and fostering the moral development of the community. From the perspective of Living Qur'an studies, this activity reflects the community's exegetical reception of the Qur'an through the study of Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani's commentary. Furthermore, based on Émile Durkheim's theory of the functions of religion, the study of Tafsīr Marāḥ Labīd serves to cultivate collective consciousness, strengthen social solidarity, reproduce religious values, reinforce the community's religious identity, and maintain social integration within the people of Linggapura Village. Thus, the study of Tafsīr Marāḥ Labīd possesses not only a spiritual dimension but also functions as a social institution that contributes to maintaining social cohesion and the religious life of the community.
